I'm not clear what you mean by "direct physical intervention". All the page
turners that I have come across e.g. QED, Gewa, Roe, operate by one or more
standard switches. IMHO the more automatic the page turner the less reliable
they tend to be and the more fussy about their set-up. For that reason I
like the Gewa but it is expensive, can only take quite small texts and
requires the user to operate - press and hold - four switches.
Also, page turners are rarely suitable for independent study purposes
(except perhaps for literature, where you may need to read a book from cover
to cover) since navigating through a book takes so long that doing anything
other than reading consecutive pages is impractical.
