Subject: Braille/Windows interface

Can anybody help a computer illiterate equal opps officer (me !) with a
problem please ?
A member of staff who is a programmer in our MIS dept has run into problems
having recently become almost totally blind (he had some remaining vision
until recently). The problem seems to be that the programs he has been
working with have been character based and compatible with a The Braille
technology that he has. Now that our systems are moving on to windows based
programs we need to find out if there is appropriate Braille technology that
can provide an interface between the two.
I am going to contact the RNIB anyway, but wondered if anyone has either
solved a similar problem or knows of anyone who can help. My feeling is that I
need to get views from someone who is knowledgeable about programming and
understands all the jargon (unlike me so apologies if anything I've said above
uses the wrong terms) AND knows a lot about the various technological aids
that exist to help blind people working with computers.
Just so you don't bore the rest of the list you can send replies to me at

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,
