I'm sending this message on behalf of Dave Laycock:
The latest ACL to LEA Awards Officers was published yesterday. In it
the DSA levels for 1998/99 are quoted. A 3% increase has been made in
the Technology and General Awards but the Non Medical help[ers
allowance has been completely revised in response to evidence from
various sources and, in particular, from a meeting between the DfEE
and Skill, all concerning the communication costs for deaf students.
As a result, next year's levels will be:
Technology: stlg3955
General allowance: stlg1315
Non-medical helpers allowance: stlg10,000
The new level will not single out deafness, but it assumed that all
students will continue to be assessed and supported in accordance with
their individual needs. Therefore there is no reason to expect
general levels of NMHA bids to rise dramatically. The ability to
merge the NMHA and General Allowance wil remain, thus the maximum
available for a communication/note-taking package could be as high as
stlg11,315.
