In the OU we are, in many ways, much more 'mainstreamed' than most. We have
many members of staff involved in coordinating facets of support for
disabled students but the majority of us are also supporting all students.
We have moved away from specific 'disability advisers' as such, though some
staff duties do only relate to this area.
An association of disability advisers may not be applicable to most of us
here and perhaps advisers in some other institutions. I do recommend the
Skill working groups, though I haven't been able to get to the last two,
These fora provide a very good place to exchange good practice and dispell
isolation. Do we really need yet another group? Can't we make better use of
the ones we have? The East Anglian group were going to set up a mailbase of
our own. Perhaps we could move this forward soon?
