Have you considered SmartCard technology for tracking these students
within the building. Exeter and York have been trialing multi-function
Mondex cards since 10/96 which can be used for access control as well as
the normal payment functions of an electronic purse
These are "contact" type cards and have to be fed into a slot to be read,
but simular "Contactless" card systems are also available and are used by
many commercial companies including Legal and General plc. to give, or
restrict, employee access to sensitive areas.
