Dear All,
I have recently joined your list because, as from August 1st, I shall be
my department's adviser to disabled students. But I am sending this,
my first message to any list, simply as a blind, non-technically-minded,
computer-user.
I use DOS only, with the screenreader Mastertouch (and a braille
display). I was very doubtful as to whether I would be able to browse
the Web until I rad about LYNX (in a not very accessible source). I
have found that i copes adequately with the simple things which I want
to do. If you do not have LYNX locally it may be possible to use
someone else's (the article I read told me where to find one). Our
local system has an earlier version which behaves well only if I
remember to call it with
lynx -show_cursor
but has the advantage that I can set up bookmarks for easy access to my
favourite sites.
There must be a wealth of impartial expert knowledge out there
somewhere, perhaps the British Computer Association of the Blind could
help ([log in to unmask]).
