We have recently been asked for clarification on the situation of nursing
students and the disabled student allowances(DSAs).
For those students who are funded through NHS bursaries: The NHS have
followed Department for Education and Employment guidelines for the DSAs
and so nursing students should be able to access DSAs on the same criteria
as students funded through local education authorities.
If anyone is having difficulties getting adequate DSAs out of the NHS, do
contact Skill as we have written to the NHS and have received copies of the
guidelines.
Nursing students should apply to DSAs through their training institution,
who will arrange funding with the local health authority. It is very
important that the training institutions receive full details of the claim
at an early date, so that all funding information can go to the Student
Grants Unit together.
Skill also has information about future funding arrangement for NHS funded
students, so do contact us if you need clarification.
We've also been asked to put our e-mail details on dis-forum, so here they
