Just a shot in the dark ...
We are in the process of designing several large theatres at the moment and
I am researching control room and dressing room technology for deaf and
partially hearing students.
1) Control room operators wear 'CANS' - ie headsets to you and I for
communicating with the Stage Management and receiving operating cues. I am
interested to know if anyone has come across headphones that have built in
induction coils (like those in telephnoe handsets) or whether the user can
just operate with the hearing aid on and it will amplify from within the
cushion (ie where is the microphone on the aid - will it get muffled by the
headset). I am aware that they would have to be a loose fit to stop the aid
being pushed into the skull! - anyone any information on this?
2) Dressing rooms: - has any one ever used a moving LED display, like you
get in the post office, to call deaf actors for their stage cue? I am
thinking of using one and wonder if anyone has previous experience?
Any other theatre anecdotes would be useful. These are large scale teaching
theatres and we are really trying to push the boundaries a bit!
Thank you for your help!
