I'm the 'IT Officer', or as we're all advisers here the title is 'Technical
Adviser', employed four days per week and doing technical assessment, follow
up support, identifying and ordering of equipment, installation and
customisation, making coffee (sometimes), showing people how to read their
email, set tabs, etc etc etc.
We also have a technician in a unit in the Library (the Specialised Learning
Resources Unit) which deals with the production of materials for students eg
braille, audio tape, enlarged print and he supports specialist library IT
equipment - scanners, PCs with speech, etc.
I suppose we seem lucky to have such commitment insofar as staffing goes
compared to most places but the workload certainly at least matches the
amount of staff and time available.
* 1. Do any of you have a designated IT officer to deal with computer
equipment
* for students with disabilities? If so could you let me know and how many
hours
* they are employed for a week.
