We have 3 Counsellors who deas with students with eating idsorders
regularly. A concern expressed by one of our Counsellors is that
Bulimia is an illness not a disability and that the aim of any
support should be targetted at aiding the recovery of the person, the inference could be made
that if financial support is going to be offered long term from the DSA what
incentive is there to the student in seeking to help themeselves in
their recovery process?
I can perfectly see that in the short term when the student is at
their lowest pitch then appropriate support must be provided,
however, the points raised by our Counsellor are I think also worthy of
consideration.
