When students with dyslexia come to me to discuss what hardware and
software they might find useful (usually to purchase through the DSA) I
talk to them about their experiences with ordinary spellcheckers in
wordprocessing packages. If they express frustration or difficulty I tell
them about TextHelp and show them a demo. While many of them are perfectly
happy with your average spell checker, a reasonably large proportion feel
that TextHelp would be helpful to them for a variety of reasons. Since
these students will probably do a large proprtion of their work on their
own machines it seems sensible for them to have TextHelp on their own
machines too.
I think that, given the opportunity to see how something works, the
students themselves are the best people to tell whether
something will actually be of use to them and in my experience they will
say if they think it won't.
