May I throw the following query out in the hope that someone may
have hit upon a solution in the past ?? We have a second - year
student going to Spain to do an intercalary year. Many years ago
he had a liver transplant and, as a result, will need to take a
particular drug on a daily basis for the rest of his life. In the UK
this medication is available to him free of charge on the NHS as
a full-time student. In Spain, however, he will have to pay for the
drug. ( It will not be possible to take a year's supply with him.)
I wonder whether - since his stay abroad is a requirement of his
degree programme - his LEA might be expected to bear the cost.
(So far as I am aware he is not in receipt of a DSA : would he be
eligible ??)
All thoughts gratefully received
Roger Thomas
