I have to say it's not such an extraordinary question (Why should anyone
wish to tape record lectures) Many of our students wish to use tape
recorders - mature students mainly as they are so often very anxious
about missing any of the pearls which droppeth.
I have met with many students who for all sorts of reasons wanted to
tape record lectures for later transcription into best handwriting
or onto electronic format. The advice from academic members of staff
here is that this is a waste of time..... they see the lecture as the catalyst
to spark off all kinds of interested research, furthere reading or just thinking
about! They say that a student would waste valuable writing up the lecture notes after the event. I am pleased to be advised in this way and so contract
in note takers wherever possible ( and acceptable to the student) . Is this
what Steve Metcalfe meant ? It's what I should mean if I had made the comment
Bestr wishes
