Dear all,
It's been really wonderful to see the huge amount of discussion that is
going on here - thank you everyone for your contributions :)
At the same time, there are a huge amount of emails coming through - I
currently have around 60 unread messages from this list alone. It is
impossible to read to each and every one: I also have other emails
coming through from work, family, friends etc, as I am sure do many of
you. I therefore have a couple of suggestions that might help us all to
continue having excellent discussions:
* Please try to limit the number of mails you send. Instead of replying
to three different messages (often from the same thread) with three
different replies, is it possible to just send one mail instead
(albeit slightly longer)?
* If you've read an interesting article on the web, instead of just
sending a link and saying "read this", please also send a little
summary of *why* it is such a good article and what it says or what
can be gained from reading it. Maybe combine that with some other
thoughts or questions too.
* If you've already sent several messages today, perhaps it's better to
be a little quiet and give other people a chance to read and catch up
(and perhaps even respond)?
* USE THE SUBJECT LINE!! If a thread starts off as one thing and then
moves to another, please change the subject line so that people can
track what the topic is. If I see something entitled "herd immunity"
I may not be interested; but if the subject matter changes to
clinical symptoms and clinical course (which is essential to know for
herd immunity), consider adapting the subject line too. For example,
that could be "Clinical course [WAS: Herd immunity]"
* Before you hit "send", consider taking a pause for a few
minutes. Maybe make a cup of tea and see if anyone else has responded
in the meantime - could you respond to those mails in the same
message?
I do not want to dissuade or stop discussion - it's been really
educational for me so far! But I would be greatful if it was more
manageable.
Best wishes,
-- Andrei
