Hi, thank you all for your responses so far.
It's a classroom management system (which is used by many in the sector) primarily to keep students engaged and learning in a safe digital environment. Any IT classroom used by students has all the devices with this software installed. The teacher can access the particular channel when teaching during lessons.
The biggest concern from discussions held so far is that by removing the software completely (including the ability to have thumbnail monitoring of student screens, history log and keylogging) is safeguarding and student welfare. However, I agree with Simon regarding whether it would reasonably pass an LIA.
Would it be proportionate if the keylogging element was turned off, but the thumbnail, history log, and programmes list was kept?

Subject: Re: [data-protection] Key Logging
Hiya - just checking to see whether I'm reading the OP correctly -
"The use of keylogging software on student machines to provide evidence with issues such as cyberbullying, using proxy sites, inappropriate use of the Internet is being used only when suspicion arises. However, discussions are taken place to roll this software out across all college-owned devices (including employees)."
Does "student machines" mean 'machines / terminals provided by the College for the use by the student body', or does it mean 'machines that are owned by students'?
