Hello,
We do seek confirmation of the data subject’s identity as part of our process, and given that this is automatically sent via an online site, but try to be proportionate and do accept in instances where they only ever gave us an email address to receive newsletters their response as proof of identity.
In addition to the above, we treat these requests as objections to receiving marketing communications and remove individuals from mailing lists (and place their details onto a suppression list). We do inform them as part of our request for ID that they have been removed but can always opt back in should they wish so.
In the majority of cases, we have not heard back from the requester. There have been a few instances where the data subject has provided proof of identity and we have dealt with these requests in full.
Best wishes,
Effie
