Hi all
I’m wondering if anyone could cast an opinion on a Friday afternoon issue.
We are currently advertising a trip for a tour company where students can travel internationally. We only refer students to the tour operators website, with whom, they sign up directly and register for the trip. The trip is open to any current student, alumni or university / Students’ Union staff and anyone attending the trip is not doing so representing the Students’ Union.
A few colleagues have requested we receive a list of students going on the trip from the tour company in case of an incident abroad and us having to be notified. I’m not so sure there is actually a legal basis or grounds here for us to be provided with this information, given it’s an independent trip and as such our membership insurance would not necessarily cover for this purpose. Additionally, the tour operator would have no way to determine who is an SU member, University staff or alumni without sending us the full list of purchasers.
Thanks
Alan
