It’s a couple of days early for a “Friday Afternoon Question/Post”, but since we’re snowed up, I’ll do it now….
Today I received several spam emails. Nothing unusual in that, but these ones, and several others I have received recently, all have something in common. They are addressed to me, by name, using my University email address. However, the body of the messages all refer to another company, which is wholly owned by my University, but with which I have absolutely no connection.
If you google this company and my name, you get nothing. So someone has obviously matched me, and is selling this mailing list on to people who are now trying to sell me electricity services, water, gas etc, or even offering to sell the company for me!
And today, guess what they were trying to sell me….. a GDPR and Data Protection compliance audit!
I have asked them where they got my personal data from, and how that sits with their own GDPR/DP status….
Perhaps some fun lies ahead.
Bruce.
