Good morning all
I have a question about the storage of identification documents, in this case as part of a Continuing healthcare (CHC) record.
CHC patients can be elderly and unable to make decisions on their own behalf. In these cases close relatives often take out Power of attorney or something similar to enable them to make decisions on behalf of the patient. CHC keep a copy of these documents and other forms of identification within the CHC record. This record may be sent to solicitors or NHS England if the case is subject to appeal.
Is it good practice to keep these documents within the record? Should we keep these documents or should we just record that we have seen them and are satisfied that this person is who they say they are as is normal practice for GP's?
Chris
