Kate,
I am not sure of what restrictions may be placed on suppliers in your sector - in the NHS, cloud providers should be "approved". I can't find the list at the moment, but I do think that One Drive is acceptable, as is AWS (Amazon Web Services). There are a number of factors to consider, and that includes where data are stored (location) plus the level of security and the resilience -

This article is not posted to say that you shouldn't, but different service levels are offered and the cheaper ones may suffer, if there is an issue, significantly more than those that have "premium" services.
A Privacy Impact Assessment will help you assess risks and decide on what risk appetite you might have for any proposed solution...

Subject: [data-protection] Microsoft 365 and One Drive
Hi all
Our IT team is considering moving to Microsoft 365 and One Drive which would mean our data would be stored in The Cloud. Apparently, we can dictate where our data will be stored so we would stipulate that it should be stored in the UK. I'm told Microsoft will not have access to that data (although I'm sceptical) and that they will effectively act as the Processor in this case. We will have a licence from Microsoft to use this software.
Does anyone have experience of setting up a contract with Microsoft ensuring that our, the data controller's DP requirements are stipulated? Microsoft just seem a bit faceless organisation to me.
Any advice gratefully received! Thanks very much.
Kind Regards
Kate
