Hi all
The DPA shouldn't prevent someone that might be at risk from having valid information, provided they're only given the minimum to suit the purpose etc.
Its best practice to inform individuals that they're being placed onto a risk register and why so that they understand they're data is being processed in that way and that it might impact the way the authority deals with them in future.
Provided the individuals were advised that information may be shared with Elected Members I'd say it's perfectly legitimate.
If they haven't been you could consider a mail shot to all currently on the register to cover sharing now, then update your notifications for future.
Kind regards
Catherine

We have a similar system here.
I have received a request to make the address data available to an MP and their staff.
Any thoughts please?
Regards,
Bernadette

Subject: [data-protection] Adverse Risk Register
We maintain an adverse risk register (potentially violent persons). We follow our procedures re strategy meetings etc and do notify the person/s that they are on (or going on) the register, what for, how long and when it will be reviewed etc etc.
The basis register is accessible for those who need to check out an address they may be planning to visit - if a positive check is found they must refer to their manager who has higher access to the detail/s and they can share that information if it is relevant, if it is not then they won't.
My (Friday) question is this:
Can/should the local elected member be advised of the addresses and or person/s on the register from their ward as a matter of routine? On a strictly confidential basis so they do walk (blindly) into a situation?
Regards Derek
