In line with Dawn's reply, our current policy is to only respond to third party requests from those with a statutory responsibility for investigation/prosecution.
We have based this on the fact that s29(2)(a) refers to data which "are processed for the purpose of discharging statutory functions..."
That said, we do receive a lot of requests from insurance companies which we have to reject, not only becasue they do not have a statutory responsibility, but as Dawn points out these are primarily concerned with whether to pay out on a claim or not and do not fall under S29 anyway. We also found that insurance companies were asking us for data to avoid going to the police.
