Dear Helen,
An option could be for the Higher Education Provider (HEP) to put interim
NMH support in place for this student, whilst the DSA application process
is being concluded. Has this been considered?
SLC will then look at reimbursing the HEP for the NMH support should the
student be eligible. This just needs to be included within the students
Needs Assessment report for our consideration.
If you drop me an email ([log in to unmask]) with the case details,
I'll also see what stage the application is at and whether we can expedite
this in anyway.
Generally, if the student officially suspends or withdraws from their
course, we would not progress their DSA application, as they need to be in
attendance to be eligible for the DSAs.
Kind regards

Dear All
I have a student with a mental health problem who is struggling and
considering withdrawing or suspending study. They haven't got their support
in place yet from the DSA as they were a late applicant.
I just wondered if they do suspend, would I be able to continue to work
with the student to get DSA support in place. I believe that they'd have a
far better chance of success with this support in place, particularly the 1
two 1 support as the main issue is being overwhelmed by the course.
I just don't want to say they can suspend whilst they get DSA support in
place, if that's not allowed.
Many thanks,
Helen.
