Invitation to join the study:
RESEARCH AUTISM CYGNET MENTORING PROJECT
Would you be interested in having a mentor?
Do you know somebody who you think would benefit from mentoring?
If so, our mentoring project might be of interest to you…
We are developing a specially designed mentoring programme for young adults on the autism spectrum and assessing whether it is useful.
The study, which is being carried out by London South Bank University, aims to develop a mentoring programme for people on the autism spectrum aged between 18 and 24 years.
The study will involve participating in mentoring for six months for one hour per week. You can choose whether the mentoring is face-face, online or on the telephone.
Each mentee will be matched with a mentor who will be identified based on the mentee’s preferences and goals for mentoring (it will be possible for mentees to switch to a different mentor if they don’t feel the match is right for them).
Prior to starting the mentoring, mentees will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about their well-being – we will be asking mentees to complete this after the mentoring as well so we can see whether the mentoring had an effect.
Each mentee will also be asked to keep a reflective log of their mentoring sessions and participate in an interview (either face-face, via telephone or online) at the end of the mentoring.
We are currently looking for people to take part in the study who would like to receive mentoring.
Depending on the number of people who respond to this invitation, you may or may not be selected to take part in the study, but we will contact you either way to let you know.
Thank you for considering the study. If you have any questions, would like more information or want to let us know you would like to take part, please do not hesitate to contact the researchers, Gemma Dawkins ([log in to unmask]) and Damian Milton ([log in to unmask])
