I did a short workshop on the direction of travel and how it looks after the latest leaks / publications last week at a DP event I chaired. Got them to start an action plan for as it stands now according to current amendments and proposals, what will you have to do in those 2 years to be ready for, say, Jan 1st 2018. Delegates seemed quite hungry to know what might be coming and start preparing for it. Especially the starting to look for resources, getting management buy-in early etc by alerting them to what may be on the cards.
As for going on expensive day courses on it.. nope, not until we get the final text.

But an important n.b. in all this is something I heard Stewart Room point out at NADPO's conference in November: at least some data protection authorities and the CJEU are regulating the current law in almost an anticipatory way. Or, rather, they are reading 95/46/EC in the light of what the draft Regulation says (see e.g. Costeja and Ryneš cases in CJEU).
With that in mind it's important to try to understand at least the direction of travel.
