The Office of National Statistics provides guidelines on this. They generally recommend anything less than 6 be merged with other results to produce bigger groupings – or at least that used to be the recommendation. Can’t find it off hand. I seem to remembers it’s “small numbers”.

Easy question,
When reporting on data collected on protected characteristics (in our case staff/students) is there a legal or recommended minimum size of group that can be reported on. With analysis of data group sizes below 10 these can be classed as statistically insignificant and for this type of data could also identify an individual. As we would like to report on data however are small groupings aggregated together or just missed out if the sum of the count is less than say 10.
