Queen Mary, University of London is the fourth largest College of the University of London and has gained a reputation for the high-quality of its academic teaching and research. It has some 15,000 students studying for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in three sectors: Science & Engineering; Humanities, Social Sciences and Law; and the School of Medicine and Dentistry. The College has around 3,000 staff and a turnover of £175 million per annum.
The Disability and Dyslexia Services offers support for all students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties and mental health issues at Queen Mary. The service provides advice on securing funding e.g. Disabled Student’s Allowance applications, access to alternative formats for course materials, assistive technology, one-to-one specialist dyslexia tuition, mental health mentoring and Educational Support Workers (e.g. note-takers) where appropriate.
The key role of this post will be to act as a first point of contact for over 1,300 disabled students registered at Queen Mary and runs the service’s reception office, as well as co-ordinating the operational aspects of the service, including the service’s budget. The post-holder is also responsible for co-ordinating student communication within Student Services as this relates to the work of the Disability and Dyslexia Service
The successful candidate will have a degree and ideally have some experience in supporting disabled students in Higher Education.
The post is full time and fixed term for one year to cover maternity leave. Starting salary will be in the range £31,113 - £36,544 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
