I might be missing something, but is there something particularly about funerals which is concerning from a DP/Privacy perspective? I'm only thinking that the arguments about people then being linked to associates could apply to the video broadcasting of any event. I'm thinking for example about live streaming of weddings (as the most direct comparison) and other events like seminars, AGMs etc.
(My mind has also jumped to the more recent example of what happens when people attend a funeral and the pictures are made publicly available e.g. all the media (social and otherwise) coverage of the great and the good (and the others!) at Nelson Mandela's funeral. Admittedly that was a public event, but it demonstrates the kind of social commentary about the connections/friendships between different people that we were kind of referring to in the criminals at funerals example.)
Is what we are talking about the difference between domestic purposes applying where a guest films at a wedding/funeral/event, and when an organisation (including a pro photo/videographer) films the event? Is there a difference? Or does it depend on what happens to the footage once it's been created?
Are we in danger of over thinking this? I think I probably am!
Best wishes,
Michelle
