I have received a couple of these. I tend to set the person they are contacting us to 'opt-out' of marketing and then contact them directly to explain that we received a letter from the Optuout company, that they have been opted out of marketing. I also provide details of the TPS and the ICO.

Subject: [data-protection] OptOutUK
One of my clients has been receiving requests via this company:
http://www.optoutuk.com to stop receiving marketing. The company seems to be reasonably responsive - they agreed to send a monthly list, rather than individual e-mails for each person - but the latest list contained 350 names and addresses which will take a long time to process.
The company charges for most of their services, and they are obviously well into marketing themselves. You can't obtain the details of the services they provide without registering on their website, for example.
So are they OK, or is it a scam? What would happen if you just ignored the requests? They seem to have been crafted to comply with the Data Protection Act requirements, and I'm not aware of anything that says you can't ask an organisation to act on your behalf, but if it is a scam it's a lot of work for the organisation receiving these requests, when you can't be sure that the person really meant it.
