If your client is registered with the DMA, surely they would be sending lists for cleansing in which case your client would get the optoutuk stuff automatically given that optoutuk claims to be connected to DMA. I doubt very much whether they would be able to "fully stop" a number of the things they claim they can ...
IANAL, I doubt that any complaints based on controller not removing details on the basis of optoutuk lists would have any legal weight if no proof is provided to the data controller that optoutuk is acting for the data subjects. May be worth a call to the DMA to check 'em out?

One of my clients has been receiving requests via this company:
http://www.optoutuk.com to stop receiving marketing. The company seems to be reasonably responsive - they agreed to send a monthly list, rather than individual e-mails for each person - but the latest list contained 350 names and addresses which will take a long time to process.
The company charges for most of their services, and they are obviously well into marketing themselves. You can't obtain the details of the services they provide without registering on their website, for example.
So are they OK, or is it a scam? What would happen if you just ignored the requests? They seem to have been crafted to comply with the Data Protection Act requirements, and I'm not aware of anything that says you can't ask an organisation to act on your behalf, but if it is a scam it's a lot of work for the organisation receiving these requests, when you can't be sure that the person really meant it.
