KEEPING INFORMATION YOU DON'T NEED, COSTS!
It costs physical space that could be put to a more productive use. It costs server space which consumes energy and needs to be maintained. It costs time when you have to search it in order to respond to a request for information. It may also cost reputations if it is subject to a data security breach.
To find out if you are keeping too much, consult the University's retention schedules and ask your local practitioner for a copy of your unit's retention schedule. For more information visit: www.ed.ac.uk/records-management.
