I agree with the posters who are ushering DPA out of the firing line here - this has nothing to do with data protection. I'm struggling to see how child protection would be disastrously compromised too, to be honest - but that might just be me not being imaginative enough.
At the end of the day though, nobody has a default 'right' to film goings on in a school - no matter how proud they are of their little beloved. Children - and their unruly parents - must accept that the school makes the rules and if the Head decides he/she doesn't want their school's homage to Scrooge to be accompanied by an 'Homage to the Paparazzi' every year, then that seems to me to be their prerogative. (Not strictly a fair comparison, but try taking your camcorder to Les Mis in the West End and see where that gets you!)
Of course, depending on the production there may even be licensing and IP issues to content with too (some copyright holders can be very precious about their works).
