Yesterday I received a telephone call apparently from a publisher of magazines and organiser of events mainly aimed at the public sector (I have not verified the number and I have no further interest) .
The scope of the call was to know which audiences, groups and even departments within the NHS I Know or I am in touch with, the people who may know me and whatever data cannot be acquired or does not come up (or is evidently faked, inconsistent or compromised by spam and other social engineered attacks) through my 'social media profile'.
This is a variation of the telephone call 'Can you confirm who you are' etc.
I believe this is a sort of human-based verification that can be in the short term more and more required by a number of serious organisations that realise they have invested / relied too much (or too early) on social networking analysis and real time location systems / geolocated 'games' to support authentication for a number of important purposes, including financial ones (money laundering, credit cards checks and the like).
I made the best introduction of my data project management consultancy I could - while up and down trains and buses, and with a broken umbrella. I had also the opportunity to make somebody aware the first edition of the NHS Records Management code of practice published in 2006 seems unfindable (not even the British Library has a copy! true - if you have one please get in touch, it is needed for research purposes, no matter it is now superseded).
When the other part was almost about to lose her temper (the tone seemed escalating towards a 'give me the names'!!!) I simply said I was very sorry but my journey had reached the final destination, my bank (it was absolutely true) and I was very grateful for the call interested in my research and business and happy to provide further info following a written request.
