We do not include the date of birth with photo and name but would suggest if it is a check on age that 16-18 or 19+ is printed - although this would be based on their age on 31st August for the current academic year.

I agree with Brenda.
You say, primarily it is used to visually identify the student but the answer may be given in what other purpose(s) you use the ID Card? Question why you need date of Birth if it is just a visual check to allow access onto campus. Providing you have a legitimate purpose (used as ID in the student bar etc.) and that's made clear to the students, I see no reasonable grounds for a complaint.
Regards
Mike

Mmmm - I suppose it could be said it was excessive if they only visually check the photo.......unless it's ever used to check they are over 18 - or under
Thanks

Subject: [data-protection] ID cards showing Date of Birth
I have received a complaint from a parent of a 6th form student to say that showing a student's Date of Birth on their ID card is in breach of data protection. We use ID cards primarily for our security guards to visually check at our main entrance to ensure the person is one of our students as they enter the site. The card has a photo of the student, their name and their date of birth. Is the claim right? Is the college at risk of breaking data protection legislation?
