I have received a complaint from a parent of a 6th form student to say that showing a student’s Date of Birth on their ID card is in breach of data protection. We use ID cards primarily for our security guards to visually check at our main entrance to ensure the person is one of our students as they enter the site. The card has a photo of the student, their name and their date of birth. Is the claim right? Is the college at risk of breaking data protection legislation?
