In mid-May AHEAD will sunset its previous "best practice" guidance on issues related to disability documentation in postsecondary education. This, now outdated, document will be replaced by new material entitled: Supporting Accommodation Requests: Guidance on Documentation Practices from the Association on Higher Education And Disability.
AHEAD's new framework presents a comprehensive, reasonable approach to using information available from a variety of sources to guide appropriate decision-making and support equal treatment and the provision of accommodations.
In an effort to ensure that all AHEAD members and other constituencies are aware of and understand this new, substantively different guidance, AHEAD will host a Tele/Web-Session on Thursday, May 24th, 2012 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm Eastern time.
Participants will need to have access to both a telephone line (for toll-free call-in audio feed) and an internet/computer connection (for visuals and captioning) at the time of the session. Each physical location will need to register separately - but certainly more than one person can be at a physical site listening and viewing (actually could be great for discussions!).
The entirety of the new guidance will be made available at least 10 days in advance of the session so that there is plenty of time for members to read, review, and formulate questions.
As a benefit of membership, AHEAD and SDS members are welcome to register for this event on a cost-only basis for only $44.00/site
Non-AHEAD/Non-SDS members are also welcome to register. The Non-member registration cost is $179.00/site
Registration is available online only and requires payment via AHEAD's secured online payment processing service. The deadline to register is Tuesday, May 22nd at 5:00 pm Pacific time.
