Surely this would be subject to the same provisions as standard CCTV cameras? To this effect I would think that the vehicles driven by these officers and the refuse tips where they would have signage informing the public about the presence of such cameras.

Subject: [data-protection] Body worn cameras
Good morning all,
I hope some of you may be able to assist and apologies if this has been asked before (I couldn't find anything specifically similar in the archives).
We have been approached by our Waste Management section who are proposing to attach body cameras to their enforcement officers in order to "record offences and help protect their operatives against violence".
I was wondering if anyone within this group has come across Enforcement (or comparable) officers using body worn cameras, as the project officer involved seems convinced this is a commonly used solution around the country?
They have not fully explained to our satisfaction why CCTV is proportionate in the circumstances but so far it seems it is a mixture of assisting with the enforcement of waste management issues (we already use digital cameras I believe) and to address crime prevention (violence against employees). I'd be interested to hear if anyone has been satisfied that using body worn cameras for this type of activity is justifiable and proportionate?
Thanks to anyone who's willing to share their comments here, or on the blog.
Kind Regards
Andrew Lane
