Surely what's needed is a privacy law that can be applied to newspaper
(and other private sector) investigations, rather than a RIPA-like
scheme whose purpose is to facilitate surveillance etc by public
authorities that would otherwise be an infringement of human rights.
The phone hacking and other activity is already illegal, why would we
want a law that could give newspapers legal phone hacking powers?
