Dear All,
For information, I sent Jayne the following email, which may also be useful to the full list:
It may be useful to explain to the academic member of staff that one of the intentions of reasonable adjustments is to create a "level playing field" for disabled people with that of their non-disabled peers. Their purpose is to enable a disabled person to have as inclusive an experience at the University to that of their non-disabled peers. Disability is the only characteristic protected by the Equality Act 2010 which allows for asymmetric treatment of disabled people. Therefore, what may be seen as treating disabled people "more favourably" is specifically allowed for in legislation. This aspect of asymmetry in law is in place to prohibit the historic discrimination against disabled people and, importantly, to allow for reasonable adjustments to be made without which equality for disabled people would be very difficult to achieve.
With best wishes,
Amy
