The "Recall" function works within certain self-enclosed email systems,
presumably including MS Exchange since I see people trying to use it from
such. However, there is no intention that it will ever work once a
message has been transferred out of that system to some other (Internet)
system (although the following suggests it might work between different
Exchange systems, perhaps):

Googling the phrase "would like to recall the message" probably provides a
wealth of amusing anecdotes about ill-advised email messages that the
sender tried to claw back ...
When the recipient gets the notification of attempted (and failed) recall,
he knows there must be something juicy in the original. I guess it is
down to honour whether they delete the original (whether read or unread),
following the intention of the recall message.
