I am posting a query on behalf of a colleague in an Institute of Technology. This student is completing an apprenticeship. Whilst the IT provides administration of the examinations, the content and assessment of the exam paper is the responsibility of the awarding body (government agency).
This student has dyslexia and possible dyscalculia - recently screened with Dyscalculium software as being "at risk". He has severe problems completing technical drawings particularly 3D visualisations and expanding a 3D object to a 2D plane and has problems using a scale rule.
He is already provided with a reader, scribe and extra time but despite these accommodations he has still failed his drawing exams and repeats because of his particular difficulties. The technical drawing section is a key part of the examination.
The examining body are reluctant to take responsibility for a decision on whether an exemption from all or part of this exam are acceptable. The IT are unsure of what other reasonable accommodations might be acceptable.
I would appreciate any advice you might have.
