I have had to explain to headteachers of our secondary schools on several occasions that they cannot give out all sorts of info about their pupils to their parents anymore.
We have been lucky enough to have some wonderful new BSF schools built, and with that comes the smartcard... it gets you in, it logs your attendance, it's a cashless card for the canteen, it's your library card, it gives you access to the gym etc etc. Before my intervention schools were looking to let parents have access to all of this. I explained they could only have the attendance and education records as set out by law, and unless their children consented, what they ate for dinner, or borrowed from the library, was, quite frankly, none of mum or dad's business. (Unless of course you may think your child is anorexic etc etc).
