Hi All,
I have received an email this morning from SFE saying my student's case
has been reviewed and he will not have to pay the public transport
deductible. That was after two requests for escalation by myself (team
leader then manager). No further information was given so I don't know
which of my arguments swayed it.
What should be clarified as many of my off-list replies showed I'd not
made it clear that this was not about a disabled student with a mobility
pass.
This student had already paid for a regular public transport travel pass
STILL being asked to pay the deductible. In effect paying twice for the
privilege of being disabled (less favourable treatment. The remaining
replies off-list agreed with me that my student was being treated
unfairly.
I still think the disability/mobility pass system is wrong and if/when I
get a student with a pass I will challenge that as far as I can. I think
this and the NHS Bursaries backtrack shows that it is worth us challenging
things we believe are wrong.
