I know many institutions now use Google Docs. Universties provide it for their students, many schools use it. It is actively promoted and marketed to schools : e.g. http://www.webanywhere.co.uk/services/googledocs.php
Depite one recent well publicised 'issue' I am able to accept at a pinch that Google Docs security is probably fit for purpose in this context
Does anyone have views on other DP compliance issues with particular regards to :
Principle 8 : Google appears to sign up to SafeHarbor principles
Principle 7 : I struggle to see how we 'manage' Google as a data processor given that their terms provide no service guarantee at all and we cannot have practically enforceabale usage rules as the monitoring required would defeat the object.
Or do I just say that if a school student stores loads of personal data as part of a project it is covered by the personal and domestic exemption ?
