Hi Andy,
I would be interested to know what they would accept first. I think they need to come up with the solution, in consultation with the student. When I have dealt with situations similar, I have provided the academic staff with all the information about the student their difficulties and what they would find difficult/unachievable.
To be honest I am having trouble thinking of anything other than course work, as I presume an oral interview would be out of the question? How about a take home exam paper, where the student is required to return it in a fixed period of time, 48 hours or a week? Adjustments would have to be made to the marking scheme to allow for access to external materials, but this is not beyond the realms of possibility.
Often I find that staff will often say no, but then can't think of a solution. I think the ball has to be placed n their court with as much information about the student as possible, for them o devise something around that.
Not sure if that helps.

Subject: Alternative Assessment Methods
Hi
This request is in regard to a student with Tourettes whose condition is significantly exacerbated in examination situations to the extent that they are unable to remain in the assessment room for more than 10 minutes.
Permission has been granted for the student to undertake an alternative method of assessment but the academic department are not willing to accept additional coursework as the alternative.
There is a meeting to discuss this on Monday and any advice from support staff that have encountered a similar scenario would be appreciated.
Thank you in anticipation
