Ever since medical records have been put onto computers, there's been
complaints about the potential to infringe privacy (and admittedly, if
cracked comprehensively, then machine readable access to a large number
of records is a problem). But the elephant in the room is that since
time immemorial in many cases your GP records were kept in a manilla
folder on an open shelf behind the receptionist, and the cleaner could
read them if they wanted to.
