I would support Renzo's opinion and add another suggestion. Data
Protection Law and Practice by Rosemary Jay. This is not a book for the
beginner but the serious student could find it invaluable.

They are both good books, IMO, but they serve different needs (although
they both have "practical" in the title.
Peter's book delves down into detail and cases etc - an excellent
resource for those who need to worry about the detail of the law.
Nicola's/Naomi's book is much shorter, practical, too the point.
The lengths show the difference, Peter's is over 500 pages (but includes
legislation). the other is 120 pages

Has anyone read either of these publications and, if so, would you
recommend
them as reference works?
Data Protection: Essential Facts at your fingertips: by Nicola

Naomi Powell (Authors)
Data Protection: A Practical Guide to UK and EU Law by Peter Carey
