The Summer Placement scheme is a 6-9 weeks work placement. It is open to
undergraduates and graduates with disabilities with the aim of introducing
interns to the interesting and varied challenges across the UK Civil
Service.
Interns are placed in a wide range of Government Departments and undertake
the type of work that Fast Streamers do. Through the scheme, interns are
able to further develop the skills and abilities required for the Fast
Stream.
The programmes are generally between 6-9 weeks within a government
department with an allocated Fast Stream buddy and a line manager overseeing
the experience. Most interns start their placements at the end of June.
Departments will be responsible for ensuring that you attend an induction
session in your first week which will provide you with a good overview of
the department you are placed in, the people who you will be working with
and areas of work you are likely to be involved in.
You will receive a training allowance of £350 per week if you are based in
London or £300 if you are based outside of London. In addition, your
expenses will be paid for attending our corporate events – Opening and
Closing Receptions.
During your two month internship placement, you will learn a great deal
about the Civil Service and the wide range of career opportunities available
should you wish to pursue a professional career in the Civil Service.
