(From a new dyslexia tutor, studying Educational Assessment and with an
essay to write)
For anyone
.who has responsibility/interest in screening HE students for
dyslexia, I would really appreciate it if you would take 2 minutes to
respond to this email (off-list probably best):-
** Do you screen ALL students for dyslexia (I’m assuming this is
usually ‘no’)?
** For students referred to your service (including self-referral),
what type of screening procedure do you use, is it
(i) DAST (Dyslexia Adult Screening Test)
(ii) University’s own screening tool
(iii) A combination of the above
(iv) Some other method?
** For those screened and then sent for full diagnostic assessment,
(v) What is the usual waiting time (in weeks) before a diagnostic can
be arranged?
(vi) Does your institution offder help with the costs of diagnosis?
(vii) What % of those referred dor diagnostic assessment receive a
positive diagnosis (e.g 85%? 90%? 95%?)
Any other comments would be appreciated.
(I am a new dyslexia tutor, continuing studies this year (B’ham Uni)
to cover assessment (C.C.E.T.) etc.)
Thank you (in anticipation!)
