Colleagues
The Home Office has just announced the outcome of the consultation on
RIPA (part 2-covert Surveillance):
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/cons-2009-ripa/http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/nov/04/council-surveillance-powers-curbed
Their proposals include:
- revised codes of practice
- more of a role for councillors in setting RIPA strategy
- the appointment of a senior officer within organisations to oversee
RIPA compliance
- removing the possibility of junior officers authorising surveillance
I will be discussing these proposals in detail in our forthcoming RIPA
Update/refresher workshops in Manchester and London.
